Exeter Library is open seven days a week and receives an average of 1,500 visits a day. The library has over 1km of shelves containing over 60,000 books, CDs and DVDs which can be issued at any of the self-service points. In addition, the library has a reserve stack of approximately 150,000 items, available on request.

There is a large children's library overlooking Rougemont Gardens and a separate teen area, as well as 34 computers which are free to use for up to 2 hours per day and printing and copying facilities.

Exeter Library is also home to the Business and Intellectual Property (IP) Centre, where you can access information and attend business events and workshops to support your business or start up. The library also houses the first FabLab to be located within a public library in England. FabLab Devon is a community creative space that provides access to a range of digital equipment and machinery.

Feel Better With A Book Group

Everyone loves sharing a great book! Come along to this friendly reading group on Thursday mornings, for a chance to listen to short stories and poems read aloud in a small group. Share responses over a cup of tea. Community reading is a chance to get out and meet others. It’s a relaxing, refreshing ‘time out’ from troubles, aches and pains.

Every Wednesday our IT Drop-in session has staff and volunteers on hand for one to one support, located in the Teen area of the library. Find help with basic IT skills, using the internet, creating email accounts, sending and receiving emails, using social media and much more. The session is not for complete beginners but is a drop in session so there is no need to book. During busy periods there may be a wait as staff and volunteers aim to assist as many people as possible during the session.

Folklore researcher Mark Norman, creator of the international Folklore Podcast and author of the book "Black Dog Folklore" talks on the image of the Hound of the Baskervilles and how Sir Arthur Conan Doyle drew on local legends and wider beliefs in constructing the Hound. The talk continues with an examination of ghostly black dogs in the Westcountry and how they relate to the broader folkloric image.
