A Complete Body of Ancient Geography
by Mons. D’Anville, 1775
This striking book contains 13 copper engraved maps, 12 of which spread over double pages. All of the maps have beencoloured by hand and all feature a contemporary outline colouring technique.
As well as maps of Egypt, Italy and Greece, Great Britain is depicted in the atlas, “in an intermediate state between ancient and modern geography”. The inside covers have been beautifully marbled but years of use and admiration have left extensive damage to the leather and cloth covers. This book has been deteriorating over the last few years, but deserves to be seen in its full glory once again. A donation to this book’s adoption fund will ensure that it is restored back to its former magnificence.
