Barnstaple Library is a busy and vibrant space, open six days a week. The Library boasts a large selection of books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs and there is a reserve stack of approximately 28,000 items which are available on request.

On the First Floor of the library there are 22 computers which are free to use for up to 2 hours a day with printing and copying facilities. Barnstaple Library also houses a large collection of Local and Family History records for the area working with South West Heritage Trust and the North Devon Athenaeum staff.

There is a bright and busy children's area with regular events and activities such as weekly Bounce and Rhyme sessions, toddler time, craft and children's book group. For adults, the library offers regular groups including, knitting, colouring, scrabble, singing and walking groups and there are regular author events throughout the year.

On a Friday morning during term time, students from Pathfield School run a pop up café in the library, serving a selection of drinks and some delicious cakes.

1 on 1 slot sessions exploring the use of Adobe Illustrator on our HP touch screen computers. Session 1 2pm-3pm, session 2 3pm-4pm, and session 3 4:30pm-5:30pm. These sessions are a great way of discovering a new form to show your artistic talents and they will also be very easy to use as you can draw straight onto the computer with a finger. Come try the style of Quentin Blake in honour of The Green Ship being screened in the Barnstaple Library for the 3rd of June or expand upon your style with digital art. Remember to bring a USB or email to save your work and to book your space early as there are only 3! This is to allow the design to be finished being created in the time allotted. This is a great way to access the embroidery machine and create a logo, patch, lettering or design. Session 1 10am-11am 11:30am-12:30pm 12:45pm-1:45pm. Only three slots so book soon, for ages 14+.
