Barnstaple Library is a busy and vibrant space, open six days a week. The Library boasts a large selection of books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs and there is a reserve stack of approximately 28,000 items which are available on request.

On the First Floor of the library there are 22 computers which are free to use for up to 2 hours a day with printing and copying facilities. Barnstaple Library also houses a large collection of Local and Family History records for the area working with South West Heritage Trust and the North Devon Athenaeum staff.

There is a bright and busy children's area with regular events and activities such as weekly Bounce and Rhyme sessions, toddler time, craft and children's book group. For adults, the library offers regular groups including, knitting, colouring, scrabble, singing and walking groups and there are regular author events throughout the year.

On a Friday morning during term time, students from Pathfield School run a pop up café in the library, serving a selection of drinks and some delicious cakes.

After Paul's presentation there will be a short introduction to what the Barnstaple Business and IP Centre has to offer. Paul O'Brien is a Regional Business Manager for Clarity Copiers, covering the North, Mid & West Devon area. His role encompasses aspects of sales, marketing, customer relationships, account management and business development. He has been with Clarity for over 20 years. He has been closely involved in local business networking for 10 years and is currently a member of four groups and is the Membership Manager for one of them. Author Visit: Michael Jecks

Michael joins us for a talk and Q&A on his latest book, The Dead Don't Wait. This book, the fourth in Michael's Jack Blackjack series, follows the disreputable pickpocket and reluctant assassin as he tries to escape an accusation of murder. Michael will talk about his books, his career and the life of a writer in the 21st Century. Tickets must be booked in advance from the Library and include afternoon tea. There will be books for sale from Waterstones at the event.

Join us at Barnstaple Library for an exciting virtual trip to outer space without leaving the library! Inside the Space Lab, the sophisticated planetarium projector projects the beautiful starry and moonlit night sky. There are several sessions during the times above, 9.30, 11.00, 12.30 and 2.00pm. The talks are all conducted in the exciting environment of the planetarium right inside the library. Suitable for 5-12s. Sessions must be booked in advance and paid for at time of booking.
