Crediton Library is open five days a week and is fully accessible to all, with off-road parking, including disabled space. Aside from a wide range of fiction and non-fiction book titles, the library offers DVDs and audiobooks to borrow which can all be issued using the self-service points.

The library has a small study area with free Wi-Fi, including 9 public access computers, which are free to use for up to 2 hours each day, plus printing, photocopying and scanning facilities. There are a range of regular events for all ages, both social and various informal learning activities, such as Baby Bounce and Rhyme, knitting group, Lego Club and reading groups for adults and younger readers.

Evening Book Club
An informal, friendly meeting where we talk about our chosen book and share recommendations for a good read. Bimonthly on Friday evening, presently being held online. Attendees will be able to enjoy a range of fascinating talks from experts during the day, as well as browsing information stands from a number of museums and historical groups. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions both to the speakers and the museum professionals. Tickets are just £5 for the whole day, or you can book for individual talks for £2 each. All money raised goes to support the work of the library. On the programme are: 9.30am: Brian Carpenter from South West Heritage Trust, who will be discussing what a day in the life of one of their archivists looks like. 10.30am: Janet Few, North Devon based author and historian, and respected genealogist. Janet will be explaining the research that she undertook on a North Devon town in the 17th century for her historical novel ‘Sins as Red as Scarlet’. 11.30am: Author Liz Shakespeare will be talking about her novel Song of the Skylark, and Devon farming and chapel communities 1.30pm: Mark Norman, folklore researcher and author, will be introducing the Folklore Library and Archive collections. The Folklore Library and Archive is housed in Crediton Library and is an internationally important collection of documents and physical materials relating to folklore and tradition 2.30pm: Local historian Tony Gale will be giving a presentation on Devon Parish Taxpayers between 1500 and 1650, both in Crediton and elsewhere. Information stands will be staffed by the Museum of Dartmoor Life, Devon Family History Society, Crediton Museum and the South West Heritage Trust and Tiverton Museum will be exhibiting local photographs.

Unlocking the Cage is an immersive visual and audio journey through the lives and works of four of these women.

Unlocking the Cage has been researched, written and narrated by award-winning author Kim Sherwood. Shortlisted for the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award 2019, she is known for her debut novel Testament and is the first woman to have written a James Bond novel with the first book in her trilogy due for publication in September 2022.

Unlocking the Cage can be enjoyed alone, or in groups of up to 4 people at a time and takes approximately 28 minutes to experience in full.
