Everybody knows that fizzy drinks are full of sugar. But how much exactly? and what else contains those hidden sugars that we should be trying to avoid for healthy teeth and bodies. Come and be amazed how much sugar you and your family eat without realising it and some little tricks to cut it out. This session will be delivered by Crediton Tesco Community Outreach.

David Pike Author Talk: I Was a London Firefighter

Join local author David Pike for this inspiring talk about his thirty-year career with the London Fire Brigade. In the talk, David will draw from his own experiences as a firefighter, and offer anecdotes from his books. David is the writer of four books about firefighting, which cover his career, the history of firefighting and real life events. His latest book, 'I Was a London Firefighter', is an anthology of stories about members of the London Fire Brigade, recollecting such tragedies as the King's Cross Fire of 1981 and Grenfall Tower's fire of 2017. David has spoken to a range of ages and audiences, and looks to inspire the next generation of firefighters. Tickets available to purchase from the Library desk.

This workshop will show you how to make the most of COBRA the Complete Online Business Reference Advisor resource, which is free to access with a Devon Libraries membership card. COBRA is a unique source of information for people starting small-scale businesses. Its search and browse options are easy and simple to use. The industry factsheets are short and simple and have a clear structure and you can download up to ten reports per day. COBRA is a continually expanding business encyclopaedia with information about starting and running a business. The directory includes around 4,000 factsheets, market reports, contacts, funding resources and support, which you can access from the workplace, library or even at home via your library membership card. This workshop is limited to 11 places and each attendee will be provided with a business hub laptop for the session. Idle Women of the Wartime Waterways

Tales of cargo, calamities and cocoa! A double bill of theatre, poetry and music to whisk you back to the days of World War II when a shortage of crews to keep the working boats going brought a new breed of boater to the canal. Young women, later nicknamed the Idle Women, took on 72′ narrow boats with 55 tons of war supplies and a whole new way of life. Tickets £10 for adults or £8 for over 65s available at the Library or via Eventbrite.

Cyber Crime Awareness

Our workshop offers impartial, nationally recognised guidance on how you can protect your organisation from cyber crime. The session will analyse case studies from investigations our unit have been involved in, and outline the steps which could have prevented those organisations from becoming victims. We will also discuss current and future threats, and explain how to defend against these. The session will be delivered in an easy to understand format with minimal ‘tech speak’ so it is suitable for all business owners. Sam works for the South West Regional Cyber Crime Unit (SW RCCU) who investigate cyber crimes where the victim is based in the South West. Her role as a Cyber Protect Officer involves supporting victims of cyber crime, as well as giving advice to organisations on protecting themselves against cyber crime.
