Exeter Library is open seven days a week and receives an average of 1,500 visits a day. The library has over 1km of shelves containing over 60,000 books, CDs and DVDs which can be issued at any of the self-service points. In addition, the library has a reserve stack of approximately 150,000 items, available on request.

There is a large children's library overlooking Rougemont Gardens and a separate teen area, as well as 34 computers which are free to use for up to 2 hours per day and printing and copying facilities.

Exeter Library is also home to the Business and Intellectual Property (IP) Centre, where you can access information and attend business events and workshops to support your business or start up. The library also houses the first FabLab to be located within a public library in England. FabLab Devon is a community creative space that provides access to a range of digital equipment and machinery.

Tony Husband & 35 Years of Private Eye Cartoons

From January until the end of March 2019 nationally renowned cartoonist Tony Husband has brought his award-winning works to an exclusive exhibition at Exeter Library. Come and browse the exhibition throughout the building, free of charge. The illustrations have been specially prepared for this display and document Tony’s work for the UK's number one best-selling news and current affairs magazine, Private Eye. The display can be seen during all library opening times.

Rebellious Sounds Listening Booth

This Women's History Month, experience a listening booth full of stories of contemporary women's activism from the South West, consider what activism means to you and maybe even share your own story. The booth will be in the Rougemont Lounge of Exeter Library from 6th-31st March, come along and have a listen.

Build and use a contact microphone 2 day workshop

2.Times Do in collaboration with A Quiet Night In present two workshops involving building contact and electromagnetic mics, recording and editing sound with the aim or producing a piece to be performed in a workshop. Workshop 1 is on Saturday 9th March (11.00 - 13.00) in FabLab Exeter. This session will involve making a contact microphone using a piezo disc and an electromagnetic microphone using an inductor. This will involve soldering and hot glue guns. You will then explore and record sounds with these mics before editing then in Audacity. We will discuss and provide you with ideas for creating a piece for performance by A Quiet Night In in the second session which will be held on Saturday 30th March. Workshop 2 will take place on Saturday 30th March (10.00 - 12.00) in Exeter Library and will be an opportunity to hear your piece performed by Emma Welton and Tony Whitehead. You will be welcome to perform alongside them if you wish or to provide a backing track for them to accompany. We aim to have at least two performances of each piece to allow for discussion and development of the work. Tickets are £15 and can be booked from <a href=Eventbrite" />

Our workshop offers impartial, nationally recognised guidance on how you can protect your organisation from cyber crime. The session will analyse case studies from investigations our unit have been involved in, and outline the steps which could have prevented those organisations from becoming victims. We will also discuss current and future threats, and explain how to defend against these. The session will be delivered in an easy to understand format with minimal ‘tech speak’ so it is suitable for all business owners. Sam works for the South West Regional Cyber Crime Unit (SW RCCU) who investigate cyber crimes where the victim is based in the South West. Her role as a Cyber Protect Officer involves supporting victims of cyber crime, as well as giving advice to organisations on protecting themselves against cyber crime. A session aimed at people with no coding knowledge or experience. The session introduces the simple Scratch coding environment and explains how to code using simple drag and drop blocks. Basic coding concepts are introduced and fun practical exercises (including the use of the Code-a-Pillars) teach the process of solving real life problems with code before the widely used high level Python language is introduced. Attendees will be able to continue their coding journey after the session if they sign up for the online accounts (Scratch and Trinket).
