Exeter Library is open seven days a week and receives an average of 1,500 visits a day. The library has over 1km of shelves containing over 60,000 books, CDs and DVDs which can be issued at any of the self-service points. In addition, the library has a reserve stack of approximately 150,000 items, available on request.

There is a large children's library overlooking Rougemont Gardens and a separate teen area, as well as 34 computers which are free to use for up to 2 hours per day and printing and copying facilities.

Exeter Library is also home to the Business and Intellectual Property (IP) Centre, where you can access information and attend business events and workshops to support your business or start up. The library also houses the first FabLab to be located within a public library in England. FabLab Devon is a community creative space that provides access to a range of digital equipment and machinery.

FABLAB workshop - 3D printed glow-in-the-dark alien

Linked to the Space Camp Summer Reading Challenge, come and find out how to make your own 3D printed alien or creature! We will guide you through using the software to create your design. Make your own bedroom friend or place your item in the garden to glow after dark. The prints take several hours so we will print them for you and you can collect later in the week. This session is suitable for children aged 8-15yrs. Parents need to bring their child/ren to the FabLab to register contact details but there is no need for parents to stay (but you can if you'd like to!) The workshop cost includes all materials. Making Your Mark Exhibition

The Making Your Mark Exhibition is currently on show and will be displaying at Exeter Library until the end of August. Perfect for families, this pop-up display draws on the themes of the British Library exhibition of the same name, which spans five millennia and five continents, exploring one of humankind’s greatest achievements – the act of writing. Pick up a free learning trail while you're here to make this a truly interactive experience. Writing: Making Your Mark launches simultaneously on 26th April in over 20 public libraries around the UK, through the Living Knowledge Network (an innovative UK-wide network of public libraries working in partnership with the British Library, National Library of Wales and the National Library of Scotland). Complementing the pop-up display, we have curated an exhibition from our own Special Collections Archive, showcasing the marginalia within some of the oldest books in Devon. Marginalia are scribbles, comments, annotations or doodles that have been added to books over the years. These unique additions add to the history of each item and hint at the individuals who have read, studied and enjoyed these books over their long history.

Thomas Keneally in Conversation

On a rare visit to Britain, Thomas Keneally, author of the Booker Prize-winning Schindler’s Ark, talks about his new work The Book Of Science & Antiquities, a bold, millennia-spanning novel about what it means to be human. Thomas Keneally began his writing career in 1964 and has published thirty novels since. They include Schindler's Ark, which won the Booker Prize in 1982 and was subsequently made into the film Schindler's List, and The Chant Of Jimmie Blacksmith, Confederates and Gossip From The Forest, each of which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Join us as we livestream from the British Library. FREE drop-in.
