Devon Libraries is a network of 50 libraries, four mobile libraries and three prison libraries.
We offer free access to thousands of books, eBooks, audiobooks, online reference, music and magazines as well as our Business and Intellectual Property (IP) Centres and FabLab Devon. Each of our libraries runs numerous events and activities for all the family, and staff are on hand to help you find anything you need.
We believe in the unlimited potential for libraries to make a positive difference to people’s lives and communities, and welcome thousands of visitors to our libraries and online services every day.
Monday 2nd April is International Children’s Book day and also marks the 213th birthday of Hans Christian Anderson! Celebrate at your local library and delve into the words of this brilliant children’s author.
Devon Libraries host regular children’s events and activities throughout the year, from theatre and music to storytime, reading groups and code club. Visit our events section to see what activities are on at your local library.

Amy Bell-Worfell - Senior Supervisor for Innovation and Development at Barnstaple Library
Amy says: I enjoy seeing people using our libraries to create, read, study, grow and imagine on a daily basis. I am proud to be part of a forward thinking organisation and being part of lots of exciting projects which challenge the way that libraries are thought about. Some highlights for me include children exploring books for the first time at Toddler Time, adults learning new skills in our FabLabs and helping more vulnerable people access groups such as memory group and sing-a-long-a-library group. As a massive Harry Potter fan, another big highlight for me is our yearly Harry Potter Book Night celebrations on February 1st.
