Gemmano- Author Talk & Cream Tea

A talk with author David Will about his new book Gemmano. A cream tea is included. About Gemmano: ‘Gemmano’ was a battle during the Italian campaign of WW2, in which the author’s late father fought. He kept a diary of his heavy involvement in the events that led to his being awarded a DSO. Armed with the diary, the author returned to Gemmano many years later and spoke to locals who had witnessed the battle. He was specifically struck by the wave of destruction that had swept across this peaceful village, as the front moved north, and so wrote the book from an Italian viewpoint, while weaving the events of his father’s diary into the tale. The result is a story of survival against absurd odds, as the locals were forced to flee their homes and become instant refugees.
